Tamara Bliss
Yoga has influenced Tamara’s life since she was a child. When Tamara was 10 years old, her chiropractor father who was interested in yoga, introduced a few
yoga asanas (including Shavasana) to his 3 daughters. Although
it took Tamara 13 years after that introduction to actually take a full yoga
class, she found yoga became a grounding point for her dancing career and
practiced it daily before going to ballet and modern classes and before
performing. She often used Pranayama techniques such as Nadi Shodana backstage
to centre and balance her energy and emotions before going on stage. A
professional dancer since 1976, Tamara incorporated yoga asanas
into her dancing but rediscovered a regular personal practice of yoga in 2002. Completing a 200 hour teaching certification in 2006, she is registered with the Yoga Alliance. Her teacher trainings include Foundational Vinyasa Teacher Training and Chakra Vinyasa with Shiva
Rea, Relax and Renew with Judith
Hansen-Lassater, Erich Schiffmann's teacher training "Moving into Stillness", YogaFit 200 hour certification, plus numerous training workshops including Iyengar yoga with K-Lea Gifford, yoga
retreats with Saul David Rea and Erich Schiffman at the Feathered Pipe Ranch, workshops with teachers Michael Stone, Linda Lack,
Kate Potter, and many others.
Tamara personifies her values and beliefs by taking her life
experience and understanding of yogic philosophy into each class to facilitate
student's efforts toward self realization and empowerment. She brings an
eclectic style of yoga to the mat; energetic and healing, with emphasis on core
strength, flexibility and safety. In Tamara’s classes, all practitioners are
encouraged to respect their limits, cultivate patience and find their personal
edge.
Tamara is also a faculty lecturer in dance at the University
of Alberta where in 1996, she completed a masters of arts degree in dance with a focus
on peak experience, peak performance and Flow!
